This site disusses the research, design and building of a Sensory
Classroom for children on the autistic spectrum.
Between 2003 and 2006 a research initiative took place at Coventry
University to investigate, design and build a sensory environment for
children on the autistic spectrum. The environment would explore the
use of digital technology to provide sensory stimuli in a fun and
engaging way for the children.
Based at the Coventry School of Art and Design, the Project has forged
links with local schools and communities, as well as with fellow
researchers and practitioners.
Funded by the AHRC, Project Spectrum has allowed two students
to
undertake PhDs. One researching the sensory requirements of the
children, and the other practice based, designing, building and testing
the environment and technology. Having completed their research, both
students are currently writing up their findings for publication.
